The Office for Student Life at Ivy Tech Community College is sponsoring a fundraising campaign to rebuild houses in the hometown village of Ivy Tech student Jean “Kedler” Abelard. Current international assistance only benefits Port-au-Prince, leaving Kedler’s village without funds to rebuild.

Kedler Abelard is a native Haitian and was studying as an international student on the Ivy Tech – Lafayette campus when an earthquake devastated his family’s home in Coupon, Haiti on January 12, 2010. Over 100 homes were destroyed in his village. The cost to remodel a home is $1,700 andthe cost to rebuild one home is approximately $5,000. In an effort to help rebuild Kedler’s Village, participants in the Ivy Tech Student Leadership Conference from each region are asked to raise and donate $250. Combined, this will be enough to rebuild two homes in the village!

Kedler continues to study at Ivy Tech - Lafayette. He is majoring in Computer Information Technology with a concentration in Networking and is planning to transfer to Purdue University – West Lafayette upon graduating. He will be speaking about his experience with the earthquake and its aftermath at our upcoming conference. Let’s show Kedler our support!

Donations will be processed and held by the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, and transferred to a mission group in Haiti who will purchase building materials and provide the materials to the people of Coupon. Please help us rebuild Kedler’s Village by making a donation to this campaign for hope.
